In April 1999, Dr. Tilley accepted the call to lead our congregation as Senior Pastor. With over thirty years of pastoral experience, God has continually blessed his ministry with dynamic spiritual and numerical growth. He and his wife, Joyce, have two grown children, Grace and Daniel. Dr. Tilley earned his BBA degree from Dallas Baptist University, his MA degree from BMAA Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry at Southwest Seminary. His purpose in life is to glorify God and to help others do the same.
James has served First Baptist since November, 1994. He grew up in Jacksonville, Texas, and married the former Julie Miley in December, 1994. They have two children, Ian and Ava Grace. James graduated from Texas A&M Commerce in May, 1995 with a BS Degree in Agriculture Education and received his Master’s Degree in Community Counseling in August, 2004 from Stephen F. Austin State University. James has been in youth ministry since 1991 and has a true passion for teenagers and loves to watch and help them grow in Christ.
Leading people to worship Christ through music is David’s life calling and heart’s desire. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, David came to Carthage in 1994. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and a Master of Arts in Religion from the Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Texas. He and his wife, Susie, have two children, Daria and Cash.
Serving over 30 years in six churches throughout Texas, Kevin brings a wealth of practical experience and wisdom. He and his wife, Ginger, have two children, Katy and Paul. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University, his Master of Music degree from Southwestern Seminary, and his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Seminary. He is a board member of the Panola Charter Schools, co-chairs the Emergency Management Team of Panola County, and serves as an accompanist for area school bands and choirs. With a love for God and people, Kevin is helping change lives today and eternally.
Mike was saved in 1967 at Daniel Springs Encampment. He later surrendered to preach that same year. His formal higher education includes Jacksonville College, AA Degree, Stephen F. Austin State University, BS & M.Ed. Mike taught school and coached for 28 years. He and wife, Marilyn, have four grown children and have partially raised several nephews and nieces from both sides of their families, and thus have many they consider grandchildren. Mike belives God’s Glory should be first in all aspects of life.
Joyce is our pastor’s wife and joined our staff in January, 2012. She was born in Santa Ana, California, and she is the 2nd eldest of 8 siblings. Joyce is considered a Marine Corp “brat” (father retired from full time duty in the Marine Corp) and has lived in numerous states. Joyce attended West Central Florida Community College and married the man of her dreams.Dr. Tilley and Joyce have 2 children. Grace is a graduate of Texas A&M University in Galveston pursuing her Master in Ocean and Coastal Resource Management. Daniel is currently a student at Texas A&M University in College Station in the Aerospace program. “I am very proud of my children and husband, and I am blessed to be here where I have ‘found my way home’ at First Baptist Carthage.”
Julie joined the church staff in April 2016 after praying for the opportunity to serve her church family fulltime. A native of St. Francisville, Louisiana, Julie accepted Christ at the age of 8 along with her mother and 5 siblings. Julie surrendered to the call of missions at age 18 and served as a missionary in Mexico and the Dominican Republic for 10 years. In 2000, she married Marty Stewart and moved to Carthage. They have raised 6 children together and now have an empty nest and 4 adored grandchildren. Julie’s heart is still missions, and she and Marty lead FBC mission teams around the world serving the poor in the name of Jesus. “It is a great pleasure to work at FBC serving the staff and my FBC family….a place where I have found my way home”
Janet is a retired public educator who has a passion for ministry and the Lord’s work. She joined the staff in January 2017. Janet has been actively involved in ministry her entire life. She was blessed to be born into the family of a Baptist minister, so she has had the opportunity to serve the Lord in many areas and in many places. She and her husband, Greg, have called Carthage home for almost 40 years and have been active members of First Baptist since 1988 (except for a short move to Tyler). Greg and Janet have been blessed with a wonderful son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Kristan. They are proud grandparents to John. They love spending time with their family and making memories together. Janet has a passion for teaching and ministering to others. She loves opportunities to show and share God’s love with others. Her goal by serving on the staff of FBC is to share God’s love with others and help them find their way home.
