FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does it mean to be a Christian?

The word Christian literally means "one who follows Christ." (Christ is another name for Jesus.) To be a Christian means that a person, first, believes what the Bible teaches about Jesus--that he is God's Son, that he lived a life in perfect relationship with God, that he was executed, buried and raised again to life, and that his death paid the penalty for our inability to keep God's Law (sin). But, it means more than that; it means that, as a result of believing what the Bible teaches, a person admits that he has broken God's Law and accepts the fact that relying upon what Jesus did is the only way that God can forgive him, personally.

When that takes place, the Bible teaches that that person is forgiven and introduced into an active relationship with Jesus, now and forever. That active relationship with Jesus means that we have access to God's guidance in our daily lives, that we have a new sense of purpose and fulfillment in life, even in the difficult times. That active relationship with Jesus means that we, too, become a Christian--"one who follows Christ"--in the full and complete sense of the word.

How can I learn to witness to others?

The true concept of witnessing just means to tell what you know. In Christianity, it means begin willing and able, first, to describe your own personal relationship with Jesus, and, second, being able to tell someone else how they can experience that same relationship.

At First Baptist Church we have discovered that there are all sorts of ways to share that information. The way we have found to be most effective, however, is the FAITH strategy. FAITH is an organized way in which we train and involve a large number of our church members in an ongoing process of telling others about their relationship with Jesus, and helping those people understand how they can have that same relationship.

Where do I get started at FBC?

In a church the size of First Baptist, we know it's sometimes easy to get lost in the crowd. The best way to avoid that danger is to immediately get involved in Sunday Morning Bible Study. In SMBS you will find people with similar interests and needs and people who are looking for relationships just like you. These are the folks who not only will learn with you each week, they will be there when you need encouragement, when you need someone to listen or when you need someone to help you celebrate.

How can I get involved in church?

We have learned that folks who get involved at FBC tend to be happier, more fulfilled and tend to stick around far longer than folks who just come to watch. For more information to get plugged in, please call the church office. (903 693-3569)

How do I get a copy of the Hospital list?

To protect our members' privacy, we do not post the hospital list online for general viewing. To find out which church members are ill, please contact the church office.

Looking for a church home?

Home is where your family lives--a place of love, comfort, joy, and loyalty. Likewise, your church home is where your Christian family lives. The members of FBC would love to have you join our family and experience our church home, but like any family, this requires a commitment on your part. For FBC to truly be your home you will need to be more than a spectator--you need to be a dedicated member.
