Rev. Henry Milton Allen's Sermon in 1921
Rev. Henry Milton Allen was the nineteenth pastor of First Baptist Church, 1910-1919. He was born August 21, 1857, near Cros Anchor, Spartanburg District, South Carolina. He was saved before he was thirteen years old and he was ordained as a minister at age 20 by the Abner's Creek Baptist Church, Spartanburg County, of which his father was then pastor, in 1877. In 1882, he married Mary Frances Luphelia Hewin, known as Fannie. They had 10 children, which included twins.
Rev. Allen served as trustee of Jacksonville Baptist College and as president of the board of trustees of the Mt. Zion Baptist Association. He published a small newspaper in Tatum, Texas with T.M. Kinsey, entitled "The Missionary Baptist." The newspaper's purpose was to raise money for the Texas Baptist Orphanage in Waxahachie, Texas, of which, Rev. Allen served as chairman of the board.
The link below is a sermon Rev. Allen delivered before the Mt. Zion Association at Smyrna Baptist Church, Panola County, Texas, on September 30, 1921. Appreciation is given to Margaret Young for providing this great find to First Baptist Church.
